The sales meeting with that damnably stuffed shirt Eversyn—Captain Eversyn to you!—had not gone well. Charlie swirled the russet fluid around his glass, rum neat as they used to say, as he contemplated his failure to get the all important envirosuit contract extension. It was quite the appropriate drink for his current mood, a favorite beverage of Ancient Earth seafaring pirates. After all, everyone on this stone heap thought he was one. Pirate, that is. Sometimes he even believed it himself. Well, that’s what he got for selling envirosuits. Everybody needed one; nobody wanted to pay for it; least of all, Captain Carle Eversyn of the Consolidated Guard! Malpairiso Sector was in deep bov-feek with that one protecting their interests. How could he possibly not renew a ‘virosuit contract when more than half his troops required them? Nykee had to be horning in on his business. They just had to be—
