ABOUT SPECFICWORLD.COM
SpecFicWorld is located in the United States and was formerly known as The Worlds of Fantasy in 1994 and re-named
to SpecFicWorld in 1999 to accommodate all three speculative
genres (science fiction, fantasy, and horror). Since then the site has become one of the top websites
for both speculative fiction fans and writers. Inside you'll find thousands of
helpful links to several publications
and
resources from around the globe.
SpecFicWorld was created for aspiring speculative fiction writers to help them find
the right markets, literary agents, and resources to help them sale and market their
work.
Over the years our most popular publication, the
SpecFicMe! Market Newsletter, grew so quickly in size in scope that we had to change
our publishing model to keep up with the demand. Now all of our market listings
can be found in the SpecFicMe Market Database - now featuring over
750 speculative fiction markets,
displayed in various ways, from simple grid views to full blown detail pages, along
with downloadable PDF versions.
Each year SpecFicWorld publishes a variety of
fiction, non-fiction in various print and electronic formats. We publish
short stories, anthologies, and
novellas. In the past we published the magazines
Simulacrum and
Rogue Worlds. Rogue Worlds was mentioned in
The Year's Best Fantasy & Horror
(edited by
Datlow and Windling) and our very
first anthology collection, Thorns of
Nature,
made it on the preliminary ballot of the
2003
Stoker Awards. And we followed
that up with another appearance on the 2004
preliminary ballot of the Stoker Awards with
October Rush.
Now all of our fiction is published in SpecFicWorld's Featured
Fiction section.
In the past SpecFicWorld has published several award winning authors from
around the globe like Tanith Lee,
Lyn McConchie, Charlee Jacob,
Michael A. Arnzen,
Kelly Link, Nancy Kress,
Kurt Newton, Bruce Boston,
Tim Pratt, Stephen D. Rogers,
Forrest Aguirre, Melissa Scott, A.R Yngve, James S. Dorr, John Kaiine,
Paul Di Filippo, Theodora Goss,
Catherine Lundoff, Marianne de Pierres,
Lyda Morehouse,
Sarah Ash, Cat Sparks,
Lisa Goldstein, and so many others we feel ashamed not to list them
all.
SpecFicWorld receives around one hundred and fifty thousand visitors each month and our core audience is geared towards the speculative genres.
SpecFicWorld also provides low cost advertising for
authors and publishers with an interest in the speculative genres. We have several
advertising oppertunities throughout the SpecFicWorld
site like our Book & Magazine Directory and
our Small Press Advantage program. And we are proud
to admit that every advertising dollar earned goes directly back into the operation
of the site, paying our authors (which so far we've published over a hundred writers from all over the globe).
In 2006 we launched our annual non-fiction section with
several titles for speculative fiction writers. Our
Quick Guide to Literary Agents
has quickly become our bestseller. And in 2007 we launched our
Quick Guide to Book Publishers series.
And in our continual effort
to help aspiring writers find some added
income
we launched
SpecFicWorld's Featured Fiction section. And each year we have an
Annual Speculative Fiction Contest,
open to both published and unpublished
writers, offering them a chance to win $300
in cash prizes, plus publication.
